Product Details

Ensure your clinic is fully equipped to handle pediatric and small-anatomy dysphagia cases with the VitalStim ECO Youth Small electrode bulk pack. Designed specifically for the delicate and compact contours of the anterior neck in younger patients or smaller adults, these electrodes provide the precision necessary for effective neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES).

Dysphagia therapy requires consistent, reliable contact between the electrode and the skin to deliver the therapeutic current to the target muscle groups. The ECO Youth Small electrodes feature a specialized design that conforms to smaller anatomical structures without compromising adhesion or conductivity. This 100-count bulk pack offers a cost-effective solution for high-volume facilities, ensuring that speech-language pathologists always have the necessary tools to facilitate muscle re-education and improve swallowing function in their patients.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Optimized Fit for Smaller Anatomy: The "Youth Small" footprint is engineered to fit the anterior neck of pediatric patients or adults with smaller frames, reducing the risk of electrode overlap and ensuring targeted stimulation of the swallowing musculature.
  • Superior Adhesion and Conductivity: High-quality adhesive hydrogel ensures the electrodes remain securely in place throughout the therapy session, maintaining low impedance and delivering a comfortable, consistent electrical current to the patient.
  • Hygienic Single-Use Design: Each electrode is designed for single-patient, single-session use to maintain the highest standards of infection control and hygiene within the clinical setting.
  • Cost-Effective Bulk Packaging: The 100-count box minimizes the need for frequent reordering and reduces packaging waste, making it an ideal choice for busy hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and private practices.
  • Seamless Compatibility: These electrodes are fully compatible with VitalStim therapy units, allowing for immediate integration into existing treatment protocols without the need for additional adapters.
  • Pliable Material Construction: The electrodes are constructed from flexible materials that move with the patient's skin during swallowing maneuvers, preventing lifting or detachment during active therapy exercises.

Indications for Use

The VitalStim ECO Youth Small electrodes are intended for use with FDA-cleared VitalStim Therapy devices. They are indicated for the treatment of dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) arising from various etiologies, including:

  • Neurological Disorders: Addressing muscle weakness or incoordination resulting from conditions such as cerebral palsy or traumatic brain injury.
  • Stroke Rehabilitation: Facilitating muscle re-education in patients recovering from cerebrovascular accidents (CVA).
  • Post-Radiation Therapy: Assisting in the management of fibrosis and muscle atrophy in head and neck cancer survivors (provided skin integrity is intact).
  • Disuse Atrophy: stimulating muscles that have become weak due to lack of use (e.g., following prolonged intubation).

Treatment Guidelines

To ensure optimal performance and patient safety, please adhere to the following application guidelines:

  • Skin Preparation: thoroughly cleanse the anterior neck area with soap and water or an alcohol wipe to remove oils, lotions, and dead skin cells. Allow the skin to dry completely before application to ensure maximum adhesion.
  • Electrode Placement: Position the electrodes according to the specific muscle groups targeted for the patient's dysphagia type (e.g., suprahyoid or infrahyoid placement). Ensure the electrodes do not touch or overlap, as this can alter current density and cause discomfort.
  • Hair Removal: If necessary, trim (do not shave) excess hair at the placement site to improve contact and reduce removal discomfort.
  • Session Duration: Apply the electrodes immediately prior to the therapy session. Do not leave electrodes on the skin for extended periods after stimulation has ceased.
  • Removal and Disposal: Peel the electrode gently from the skin to avoid irritation. Discard the electrode after a single use; do not attempt to re-apply or share electrodes between patients.
